The Tarantula Waltz is based around the song-writing of Markus Svensson.
In September of 2007 his critically acclaimed debut album was released thru swedish label National. The album was listed as the 9th best album of 2007 by Patrik Forshage at Nöjesguiden.
Since, he's been touring in Sweden, Italy, England and Scotland.
The upcoming album "Minus + Minus = +" is now being recorded and will be released sometime during this winter.
According to Markus the new album is way better than the debut, and the recent live shows with his new super group proves that he's right. For a preview, check out the new single Chains in the store.

The Tarantula Waltz clearly loves the off beat americana of Townes van Zandt, Will Oldham and Neil Young but they’ve taken these influences and made something new. The sounds on their upcoming release are cathartic gothic blues as inspired by the howls of Jeff Buckely as the dirges of Joy Division and the noisy psychedelic instrumental rock of Dungen or the soft indie folk of Jose Gonzales. The band’s technically a trio but on the noisier parts of “Where I End and You Begin” they might as well be a quintet. The explosion of sound in the middle of this songs a dramatic counterpoint to the silences built into the beginning and ending passages. There is an 11 song album recorded that should see the light of day sometime in 2007.

A garment woven from fraying, lonely threads, "The tarantula waltz" is an exploration to be placed alongside Vetiver's "To find me gone" or a strange collaboration of Songs: Ohia and Nick Drake. Instead of exploring the emptiness at the heart of many of their songs, The Tarantula Waltz survey emptiness slowly filled by guitars and voices, by strings and melodies. Far from a cheery record, it isn't terribly depressing either, merely contemplative and pregnant with pauses and silences - very much a canvas that can be painted by the world of the listener. I can imagine "The tarantula waltz" being a dark indulgence during this cold, dark, nearly claustrophobic winter season, and a warm, thoughtful recess during summer's lengthy, sun soaked days. All in all, there's as much honesty as there is twang in this record, like Johnny Cash held to the building pace of Sigur Rós. Definitely worth looking into.

En trasig livshistoria målas upp och lappas ihop genom åtta tragikfyllda melodier. Americanabandet The Tarantula Waltzs debutalbum med samma namn är full av vemod kompat med fingertoppskänsla. Det märks att The Tarantula Waltz har spelat under några år. Det är genomarbetat och trion verkar ha funnit en trygg plats inom Americanascenen. För Markus Svenssons skull hoppas jag att nästa skiva blir gladare. Själv har jag inte fått nog av vemod. Ge mig gärna ytterligare en till halvtimma att tyngas av, fly undan från eller bara vara närvarande till.

4 av 5. Blott 22-år bildar Markus Svensson stommen i debutbandet The Tarantula Waltz. Jag blir förvånad över att hans röst andas en mörk och rå, men ändå optimistisk, livserfarenhet. Den får mig att vilja lyssna, för jag tror den har något att berätta. De tunga texterna är hjärtliga samtidigt som de är vemodiga. Tillsammans med vitala musikbakgrunderna, speciellt snygga när stråkarrangemangen får ta lite plats, bildas harmoniska låtar som inte bara är melankoliska, utan innehar en skönt vibrerande stämning. De trevande och gitarrbaserade låtarna innehåller en musikalisk bredd som med bravur fyller upp tidsluckorna för varje låt. Bandet vågar experimentera med lite mer udda instrument och sound, vilket skapar en produkt som skiljer sig från mängden.
